Card Captor Sakura is a magical girl anime (yes, anime's have genres too) that follows the adventures of 10 year old Kinomoto Sakura who is on a quest to capture all of the Clow Cards that she accidentally set free. Helping her are the guardian beast Kerberos, her best friend Daidouji Tomoyo, and Li Shaoran (who starts out as her rival). When she finally catches the cards, though, she must first earn the right to keep them then she must help keep them "alive" by turning them all into Sakura cards so that they live from her magic instead of their dead creators. The entire anime series/movie spans about 4 years in Sakura's life. I love this particular series because it has some great romantic story arcs, cool magic and wonderful animation. Like most anime, it has no problems with having a homosexual couple, teacher/student relationships, or younger/older couples (i.e. May-December kinda things). It also did a nice job of keeping up with story continuity. As with my "regular" TV programming, I like an anime series that flows well from one episode to the next. Card Captor Sakura (or CCS for short) spans 70 episodes in three seasons, along with 2 full-length movies. |
