Blue is a blue merle border collie/australian shepherd mix that first belonged to my brother. He got her for "free" from some backyard breeder in the country who had bred two merles together. As a result, Blue was born deaf, but the woman didn't tell my brother that. A week after he got her, he asked me to come look at her because she wouldn't obey anything. Took me about ten minutes to confirm she was deaf. He didn't want her anymore, of course, so I took her home with me. I gave her a new name (I forget what silly name they had given her), with Blue coming from her blue merle patches and gorgeous blue eyes.
She is a very very smart dog, sometimes too smart for her own good! She knows a variety of commands (given with hand signals), including sit, down, go, kennel, and wait. We're still working on stay and walkies. She is also very good about walking on a leash. After spending the first year of her life battling a particularly tough strain of demodectic mange, Blue is a happy, healthy baby who loves people and her family. She really loved Shasta, and searched for her for weeks after she passed. She is affectionate with the others, even if they don't always return it ;-)
