"Do you have a goal? You gotta have a goal!" - Kit DeLuca, Pretty Woman

I have a lot of goals, and I'm trying to be more realistic about goals I set. I generally set goals for each year (instead of "resolutions") and I also have longer term goals set to work towards as well.

Goals for 2010
Brewing now!

Goals Results for 2009

Successesdancing

  • Purchase necessary bookcases and get library set up with all books unpacked and on shelves
  • Come up with some display mechanisms for various collections and get them out of their boxes: Painted Ponies and other horse figurines, plushies, and swords - while all of the plushies are not displayed, on the whole I'm calling this one a success
  • Get art work on the wall, at least one painting or other piece on the wall in each room - also going to call this one a success as I did meet the spirit of the goal, even if my master bedroom and home office still are artless (also rooms slated for painting, so not a huge deal)
  • Continue to search for a pair of boots that I will like, with main preference being gray suede boots, that are not also ridiculously priced - well, I did continue searching, and even found them - just need for them to be in stock when I have the funds for them
  • Wikipedia goals for articles: 2 more Featured Articles, 4 more Good Articles, 6 more Featured Lists
  • Take Yuki through dog training, including required puppy class and maybe advanced obedience as well
  • No more sleeping on the sofa! Night time sleeping must be done in the bed. Napping on sofa allowed, but needs to be reduced to shorter naps. Start by reducing from untimed to 1.5 hours. - took awhile, but mostly done except on really cold nights where its easier to sleep in the living room and stay warm :-P
  • Start and finish playing: Odin Sphere, Persona 3, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, replay of Kingdom Hearts, and replay of Final Fantasy VII - finished Odin Sphere, Persona 3, Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy VII. Decided to get Resident Evil for the Wii, so going to call this a success for the spirit of the goal, which was basically to get through some of my gaming backlog (and I hadn't realized at the time the goal was set how crazy long Persona 3 was)
  • Work on curb appeal of house: clean the windows, get them damn bushes gone, replant out the front garden - got the windows cleaned and the bushes gone, but the front garden finally got mostly ripped out - replanting will have to wait but on the whole, at least it looks somewhat better
  • Edit Broken Wing and then decide what to do with it :-) - got through the first edit on paper, and up to chapter 3 in editing on the computer...should have gotten more done, but I met my basic goal
  • Create plan for contributing to Roth IRA and get it going - started and did some contributing
  • Get desktop computer parts ordered, installed, and it running again - okay, still need to put in the hard drive and reconnect everything, but it is running again
  • Back up all computers on a regular basis
  • Prepare for CFUnited 2009 and learn lots while there
  • Get ColdFusion 8 certification - yes!!!
  • Win NaNoWriMo 2009!! - yes!!!

Failuressigh

  • Finish the remaining kitchen renovations, specifically: fix the backsplash to solid drywall again, paint trim, finish refacing the cabinets and get them painted inside and out, finish redoing doors, install the new hardware and put the doors back on, and install flooring. - I did finish the refacing and painting of the cabinets and the doors - but the rest went undone and I decided to replace the doors instead of putting the rest back on
  • Pay off all these credit accounts: Capital One, Best Buy MasterCard, Best Buy financing account, PayPal Buyer Credit, Wal-Mart Card, Fingerhut, using income tax refund; Once accounts are paid off, close Capital One account (annual fee) and do not carry excessive balances on rest, reserve primarily for emergency funds - While I did get them all paid off, and the Capital One and Wal-mart accounts closed, I now have balances again on the others so in the end, didn't meet the second half of the goal and later reworded it to "Get myself in good financial health, including at least $1000 in savings and getting the credit cards paid down" which is also a failure for 09
  • Make at least 4 posts to Animania per month, not including the monthly purchase updates - complete and utter failure
  • 2009 starting weight: 173 lbs. Reduce this to 160 lbs. - after I topped out at 180, I joined Weight Watchers and am now down to 169 - my goal was 13 lbs, but only lost 11 after gaining, so only 4 net lost and this one is still a failure
  • Get average steps up to 8,000 steps: start by walking more in neighborhood, try walking to work once a week, walk instead of drive to nearby places - complete and utter failure
  • Reduce stress at work, and attempt to roll with the punches regarding new boss and new guidelines and find new ways to enjoy my work again - stress went up instead of down thanks to the crap with the databases, the up/down on the DBA thing, the crap with Willis, etc - did at least do better with rolling with most of the punches and adjusting to the changes in my work environment and the whole group thing...so half and half?
  • Expand wardrobe some: at least four new pairs of pants, more socks (*grin*), and more bras; get new pair of sneakers; new jacket - did get more socks and new sneakers (which Fusion has pee'd on twice...), jacket was a late addition, and pants I decided to wait on until I lose more weight

Canceled frustrated

  • Get ING savings account back to at least $3000 - dropped in favor of getting debts paid down
  • Get bike pump and get air back in bike tires, start taking to work to ride at lunch at least twice a week - gave up on trying to do the bike riding, just not in shape for it - sold the bike
  • Start learning Japanese with the Rosetta stone software I purchased in 2007! - took too long to get the desktop going again
  • Create poem book with Blurb software, if new version with fixes for LJ is done, also do books of Eclectic Thoughts - Poem book was done and ready for printing, but alas, it was lost in my laptop crash and I just couldn't bring myself to do it again.
  • Get yard drainage issues fixed - canceled to focus on debts first
  • Pay off either Lacks or Lowe's account (probably Lacks as its a little lower balance) - canceled as impossibility
  • Get painting supplies set up and complete at least three new paintings - didn't do it officially, but unofficially canceled as really have no place to paint while the guest room still is being used for kitchen reno stuff
